My World
I paint the colorful world in which I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, canyons and other creative people.
Because the first 25 years of my fine arts career was spent studying watercolors and sculpture, my textural oil paintings reflect some sculptural qualities and the influence of watercolor technique: I use a minimum of brushstrokes and emphasize the background spaces to clarify the subject in its setting. I use strong color and imagery to fill the whole frame of my paintings.
My artistic life intersects with the ranch life of the area, so my subjects are most often animals (and sometimes their people) made momentarily grander by being caught in strong, dramatic light.
